PAWCATUCK, Conn., March 13, 2017Cable Components Group (CCG) announced today that Lyle Topa of Charlestown, R.I., has been appointed to the position of Polymer Compounding Engineer.

In his new position, he will be an integral part of a product development team for new compounds for wire and cable insulation, jacketing, cable fillers, fiber-optic blown tubing and non-wovens. Compounds will be developed from polyolefins, fluoropolymers and engineered resins, with the addition of fire retardants, nano particles, foaming agents and other value-adding ingredients.

Topa joined CCG after graduating last spring from the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering. Since then, he has been participating in a six-month training program in compound engineering at CCG.

“Working closely with the manufacturer, Lyle has played an integral role in commissioning and troubleshooting our new compounding equipment,” President Charles Glew said. “In addition, he has already assisted in developing compounding processes that will create the foundation for future business at CCG.”

Topa has developed compounding work instructions (CWIs) that are helping to advance CCG’s compounding operation into the production stage. Last year, CCG invested $3 million to develop two Buss Kneader lines that provide the ability to compound materials at below-standard temperatures, enabling foaming agents and high levels of flame retardants to be incorporated into products without degradation. CCG also has a high-temperature, twin-screw line that serves as a workhorse for compounding CCG’s flagship FluoroFoam® product.

With its compounding lines ready to operate, CCG has begun adding staff with compounding expertise and marketing its expanded capabilities.

About Cable Components Group

Cable Components Group (CCG) of Pawcatuck, Conn., which was founded in 1998, is a manufacturer of extruded profiles and a compounder for the wire and cable, fiber optic and industrial non-woven markets. CCG has the ability to compound materials at below-standard temperatures, enabling foaming agents and high levels of flame retardants to be incorporated into products without degradation. CCG’s FluoroFoam® and FluoroSpun® product lines include patented cable fillers that meet high fire-retardant and low-smoke generation plenum cable requirements, making them ideal for use in Category 6, 6e and 6a LAN cables. Other CCG cable fillers include extruded profiles, rods, tubes, tapes, fibrillated tapes and multi-filament yarns manufactured from fluoropolymers (FEP, MFA, PFA, ECTFE, ETFE, PVdF), specialty PVC, polyolefin, nylon and PPS. For fiber optic connectivity, CCG offers furcation tubing, fiber buffering and optical fiber cable components, which are available under a private branding agreement. CCG’s newest products are based on chemically foaming engineered resins (PEEK, PPS, PSU, PPSU, PES) and polyolefins (FRPP, FRPE, LSHFPP, PE).
